I came to be a designer of jewelry in a very round about way. I was trained as a scenery and costume designer. I have a BFA from Arizona State University in Technical Theatre and an MFA from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in Production Design. After three years at my first real job in Connecticut, I began a trek to the opposite coast via Colorado and New Mexico.
One day, my mom calls me up and asks me to help her with a business venture she's thinking of starting. I remember telling her, "I'll give you one year, and then I'm on my way." Well, we're completing year five.
Initially I had to adjust from 40 foot scenic drop mentality to 4x5 inch greeting card mentality. Designing a card for a store sample used to give me anxiety. So now I find it ironic that my love now is sculpture on yet a smaller scale; jewelry.
